What’s New for Xbox One December 2016

Microsoft has been busy as of late, updating their Xbox One console with freebies, system upgrades and brand-new consoles. The Xbox One has been outselling the PS4 as of late, which puts a big grin on the Microsoft bigwigs’ faces. With good reason; Microsoft really has gone a fantastic job recently of keeping their fan base happy. Their monthly console updates tweak and add new and exciting features. Games with Gold give Xbox Live users free Xbox One and backwards compatible games each month. The New Xbox One S has been selling incredibly well, as have the Xbox exclusives, like Gears of War 4. There are new apps arriving constantly, making your Xbox One really feel like the multi-media mega machine Microsoft promised us. So, what’s new? What’s next?

Games with Gold – December:

As if Microsoft is giving us a Christmas treat, the December Games with Gold offerings are delicious. Murdered – Soul Suspect is free until December 15thSleeping Dogs; Definitive Edition is free all month, and the survival-horror Outlast is free to download from December 16th to January 15th. Outland and Burnout Paradise are the Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible games available in December.

DropBox Now Available on Xbox One:

I use DropBox daily. As a writer, I pass documents back and forth constantly, and now, with the addition of DropBox on Xbox One, I can now do the same with my movies, TV shows and pictures. It’s a simple drag and drop procedure, saving you from having to upload onto a USB, connect to the console, etc. Share screenshots and videos with a few simple clicks.

Backwards Compatibility Grows:

When announced, there were some skeptics, but Microsoft continues to impress with an ever-growing catalog of backwards compatible games. The list is now in the hundreds and growing constantly. With fan favourites like the Bioshock trilogy, the Mass Effect trilogy, Alan Wake, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Red Dead Redemption, there’s no better time to go back and experience some of the classics.

Bundles of Joy:
With multiple consoles now available, Microsoft keeps tossing wonderful bundles our way. With different games and storage space, there are plenty of bundles available, so chances are there’s something right up your alley. Some focus on the Microsoft exclusives, like Gears of War 4 or Halo 5: Guardians, while others offer favourites like the new Battlefield 1 or Minecraft. Go with the 500GB bundle or the 2TB, there’s plenty of space and plenty of games to go around. Plus, the White Xbox One S is a pleasure to look at, and runs like a dream.
It’s an exciting time to be an Xbox One owner. With Christmas just around the corner, maybe it’s time to think about spreading the cheer and gifting a new Xbox One S to your family members. In no time, you’ll be spending some quality time together playing Battlefield 1 deep in the trenches of World War 1. You know; quality family time. ‘Tis the Season.
